Someday
by Frodo Baggins 88
“…I love you too much to let go.”
Casey exhaled quietly, waiting a little while before inhaling again. Why did he keep on? Why, when so much was against them? Was he that stubborn, that dumb? So much against them, so much pain being caused by family members. It had to be hurting her inside as much as it hurt him. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Why should anything that was right have so much opposition?

Maybe he should do what it took to get their lives back. Face it, as long as they were together, this misery would continue. The only way to stop it was to break up, to give in, to let their fathers have their way. He was hindering her, holding her back, keeping her from having peace, from having the relationship with her father that she should have. Who was he to rob her of that? Who was he to make her choose? He was no one.

How the hell did we wind up like this
Why weren't we able
To see the signs that we missed
And try to turn the tables

I wish you'd unclench your fists
And unpack your suitcase
Lately there's been too much of this
Dont think its too late

He watched her in silence as she sat there, seemingly thinking over his words based on the look on her face, the way she was looking away, distant. It was a lot he had asked of her in the past few minutes they'd been sitting like this. To elope, something too rash for him, even for her, but he had suggested it. It was his moment of weakness, his moment of stupidity. Now it was time to rectify it, to do what was right and break it off.

But, before he could, Evie was speaking again, and he had to wait. Waiting was never good for his resolve when it came to her. It made him nervous, made him feel a bit addled, but he listened. "Can I think it over? If this is what it takes for us to be together without any worry about what they say, then I'll do it. I don't want to lose you, but if there is a chance for our wedding...."

"No, Eves, you can't think it over," he answered. At the confused look upon her face, he finished what felt he had to do, "You can't think it over because it's over." It took all his willpower to keep his eyes trained on her as he spoke. He didn't want this. This wasn't how he wanted things to end..against his will, against both their wills, but it had to. It simply had to.

Nothin's wrong
just as long as
you know that someday I will

Someday, somehow
gonna make it allright but not right now
I know you're wondering when
(You're the only one who knows that)
Someday, somehow
gonna make it allright but not right now
I know you're wondering when

They had a love that was so meaningful, so powerful, the sort of love people said happened only once in a lifetime, yet here he was throwing it all away. He would be miserable, but what other choice did he have? Hindering her, holding her back from any chance at happiness wasn't right. He was being selfish, keeping her.

Maybe things had grown too serious too quickly. After all, they'd only got together shortly before an attempt was made on Evie's life by Jamie Seams. Only days after asking her to the Yule Ball had he saved her from said attack. And then near the end of that schoolyear, Lucius had tried to kill them both, but Casey had somehow saved her. Saving someone's life was something that bonded one to that person for life, something the two shared for the rest of their lives. Maybe they had mistaken that bond for love.

Deep down, he knew that wasn't the case, but he had to believe it for now, just long enough to get her to leave, to go back to her flat. Then, he'd be alone here in his cousin's home to think, to do as he pleased. He'd probably drown himself in a book to forget. Casey wasn't the sort to go talk about his problems, not when they were like this. Sam would probably come check up on him eventually, but he was not going to talk. Let him think what he wanted.

But now, why wasn't she talking? Why was she looking at him as she was? Merlin, not traces of tears, not the anger and confusion all wrapped in one that was written all over her face as she remained on his lap after an apparent moment of considering getting up. He had to endure this, had to trust his instinct to let her go. He kept his blue eyes looking up at her, trying to figure out what was going on in that mind of hers.

"Casey, that's not what you want.." Evie tried to plead.

"It is, Eves. I can't go on like this. All we wanted was to be together, but we can't be...At least, not now."

Going to go shower. o.O Then, I'll come back and finish after going with mom to pick up Allie. Meh...can't decide whether to go with mega angst as I'm prone to when writing fanfic or not. >.<
